Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: 12 June 2026
This policy explains how cancellations and refunds work for ML.1 ("ML.1", "we", "us", or "our"), available at https://www.ml1.help and operated by Susan Volschenk as an individual, based in South Africa.
1. Free trial
Every new account starts with a 7-day free trial of full access.
- No payment card is required to start the trial.
- You are not charged during the trial.
- At the end of the 7 days, your account automatically moves to our Free tier. Nothing is charged, and no card is requested unless you choose to subscribe.
Because no payment is taken during the trial, there is nothing to refund if you decide not to subscribe.
2. The Free tier
If you do not subscribe — or if you cancel a paid subscription — your account moves to the Free tier at no cost. The Free tier keeps full access to all notes, flashcards, and subject organisation you have already created, and includes a limited monthly allowance of AI tutor questions, note and document uploads, and lecture recordings. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.
3. Cancelling a paid subscription
You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. There is no cancellation fee and no minimum commitment beyond the billing period you are in.
When you cancel:
- Your paid access continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for (the rest of the current month, or the rest of the current year for annual plans).
- After that period ends, your account moves to the Free tier. Your study material remains accessible.
- No further payments are taken.
4. Refunds
ML.1 does not provide refunds for subscription time that has already been paid for.
- Cancelling stops future billing. It does not refund the current billing period or any previous billing period.
- If you cancel partway through a month or year, you keep paid access until that period ends, but the amount already paid is not refunded.
- This applies to both monthly and annual plans.
We keep this policy simple and clear on purpose: there is no payment card required to try ML.1, and the 7-day free trial is there so you can decide whether ML.1 is right for you before you ever pay.
5. Exceptions
This policy does not affect any rights you have under South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act, that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you were charged in error, or if there is a genuine billing problem, contact us and we will put it right.
For billing errors or duplicate charges, please contact us as soon as possible at support@ml1.help with the details, and we will investigate.
6. How to cancel
- Sign in to your ML.1 account.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Manage subscription and choose to cancel.
If you have trouble cancelling, email us at support@ml1.help and we will help.
