Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 12 June 2026

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ML.1 ("ML.1", "the platform", "we", "us", or "our"), available at https://www.ml1.help. ML.1 is operated by Susan Volschenk as an individual ("the operator"), based in South Africa.

By creating an account or using ML.1, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

1. What ML.1 is

ML.1 is a study platform for school and university students. It allows users to upload notes and documents, generate flashcards, organise study material by subject, ask questions to an AI tutor, and transcribe lectures into notes.

ML.1 is a study aid. It does not guarantee any particular academic result, and AI-generated content (including extracted notes, summaries, flashcards, and tutor answers) may contain errors. You should verify important information against your own course materials.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You may create an account if you are a student or are otherwise authorised to use a study platform.

ML.1 is designed for school students, many of whom are under 18. If you are under 18, you may only use ML.1 with the knowledge and approval of a parent or legal guardian. During signup, users under 18 are required to provide a parent or guardian email address and to confirm that a parent or guardian has approved the account. How we handle personal information for users under 18 is described in our Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity that takes place under your account. You must provide accurate information when registering and keep it up to date.

3. Free trial

New accounts include a 7-day free trial of full access to ML.1.

  • No payment card is required to start the trial.
  • The trial begins when you create your account.
  • At the end of the 7 days, your account automatically moves to the Free tier described in Section 4. Your account is not charged, and no payment card is requested unless and until you choose to subscribe.

4. Free tier

When your trial ends, or if you cancel a paid subscription, your account moves to the Free tier. The Free tier remains available at no cost and includes:

  • Full access to all notes, flashcards, and subject organisation you have already created — you can always view, read, and search your existing study material.
  • Flashcard study sessions with the flashcards you have created.
  • A limited number of AI tutor questions per calendar month.
  • A limited number of note and document uploads per calendar month.
  • A limited number of lecture recordings and transcriptions per calendar month. Transcripts you create remain available to read.

The following features require a paid subscription and are not available on the Free tier:

  • Unlimited AI tutor questions
  • Unlimited uploading and processing of new notes and documents
  • Unlimited lecture recording and transcription

The Free tier never removes access to study material you have already created. We may adjust Free tier limits in future; any reduction will be communicated in advance.

5. Paid subscription and pricing

A paid subscription unlocks unlimited access to all ML.1 features.

  • Monthly plan: R89 per month
  • Annual plan: R699 per year

Prices are in South African Rand and include any applicable taxes. Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider, Paystack. ML.1 does not store your full card details.

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) until you cancel.

6. Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. When you cancel:

  • You keep paid access until the end of the billing period you have already paid for.
  • After that period ends, your account moves to the Free tier.
  • We do not provide refunds for time already paid. Cancelling stops future billing; it does not refund the current or past billing periods.

Full details are in our Refund & Cancellation Policy.

7. Acceptable use

When using ML.1, you agree not to:

  • Upload content you do not have the right to use, or content that is unlawful, harmful, or infringes the rights of others.
  • Use ML.1 to cheat in a way that breaches your school's or institution's rules. ML.1 is a study aid; you are responsible for using it in line with your institution's academic integrity policies.
  • Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the platform.
  • Resell, sublicense, or share your account access with others.
  • Record lectures or other audio where you do not have the right or permission to do so. You are responsible for complying with your institution's policies and applicable law regarding recording.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms.

8. Your content

You keep ownership of the notes, documents, recordings, and other material you upload ("your content"). By uploading content, you grant ML.1 the limited permission needed to store and process it in order to provide the platform's features to you — including sending it to the third-party AI services described in our Privacy Policy.

We do not sell your content and do not use it for advertising.

9. Availability

We aim to keep ML.1 available and working, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Features may change, and we may carry out maintenance that temporarily limits access.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by South African law, ML.1 and its operator are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for academic outcomes, arising from your use of the platform. Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or other applicable law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify users through the platform or by email. Continued use of ML.1 after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
